Damn, Ciara really can’t catch a break!
A while ago on FNL Radio, I announced that Ciara would be releasing the Usher-assisted track “Turn It Up” as the third single from her tragic flop of an album by the name of Basic Instinct. But things have taken a turn - the single has been erased from the list of singles released to radio and I logged into my Sony Music account to see that the song has been deleted as a single.
So is this officially the end of Ciara’s career as a recording artist on LaFace/Jive Records? With Jive doing big things with Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Usher, Pink and hell, even R. Kelly doing major, is CiCi even a needed asset any more?
Ciara had every opportunity possible to fix her sh** after the Fantasy Ride era crashed head on, only selling 170k to date since it’s 2009 release. But she had to go and f*** it up by recording this Basic Instinct album with Tricky Stewart and The-Dream executive producing the disc as well as producing and writing a majority of the tracks. I can’t even pin point more than two good songs on this CD.
Not only was the choice of production a problem, but single choices, lack of concrete news and jacked up promotional efforts messed up her whole situation. Back last summer when Terius did an interview explaining his contribution to Basic Broad InSTINK, he basically said this is a “last shot” album. If your producer doesn’t even have faith in you, why not go back in the studio, do some hoe sh** for tracks, and deliver a better album than this foolishness?
Word around town is that she’s trying to strike up a deal with Interscope. But will that even help? At this route, Ciara needs to take a one year break, do a VH1 or MTV reality show (don’t do BET…too ratchet and won’t help the cause since they don’t like you like that on the low low), and do what you did on Fantasy Ride. Only reason why that album didn’t work out is because majority of the album tracks leaked MONTHS before the release and messed up single choices. But if she does everything correctly this time, she’ll do good.
But if re-recording Fantasy Ride To Hell with Ike Turner can’t help, what will.
