1. MUSIC VIDEO: ASHANTI F/ BUSTA RHYMES - “THE WOMAN YOU LOVE”

She’s baaaaack! One of my all-time favorite flops Ashanti is back with her brand new video for “The Woman You Love.” The Busta Rhymes-assisted track is the lead single from her upcoming fifth-studio album BraveHeart, in stores this spring.

For the video, Miss Douglas takes a futuristic approach to dealing with a broken heart with queened out-gay-for-play “actor” model Marcus Patrick playing her leading man. Also, Busta makes a virtual appearance for his verse in the clip.

I gotta give props where props are due…Ashanti looks sooo good in certain parts of the video. I still think this time around she’s trying a little too hard fashionably (she must’ve gotten a hold of Fergie’s leftover Black Eyed Peas tour outfits when she was auditioning to take her place). However, I’m still caught in the mystery of JayHova Kanye as to how Ashanti is as K-mart low budget as a basic donkey broad can get, but her video quality looks waaaay better than most people that are out right now. She definitely knows what to do with a $500 budget, and I commend her for that. Gold star for you Ashanti!

SN: Am I the only that kept thinking about Trina Braxton when seeing this video?

  2. NEW MUSIC: ASHANTI F/ BUSTA RHYMES - “THE WOMAN YOU LOVE”

My favorite flop and your favorite flop is back with new music! This whole past year, Ashanti has been talking about releasing singles, potential album release dates and promo plans and whatnot…all until now.

The Princess of Glen Cove, NY has teamed up with fellow New Yorker Busta Rhymes for the release of her new single “The Woman You Love.” The track is the first single from her upcoming fifth studio album, due next year on her Written Entertainment imprint.

Am I wrong for liking this song? It actually sounds decent. My only thing is, this won’t get Shani back into the world of hits if she stands by this basic, mixtape track sounding foolishness from her Murder Inc days. I say she either take that rumored Black Eyed Peas deal replacing Fergie or do some minimal hoe shit to appeal to the Pop crowd as needed nowadays then go back to your old ways.

  3. MUSIC VIDEO: KANYE WEST F/ RIHANNA & KID CUDI - “ALL OF THE LIGHTS”

Just last night on FNL Radio, I explained how Kanye West’s video for “All of the Lights” was being delayed due to the focus being on the recently released “Monster” video. However, that was about two weeks ago when I got that scoop and by the way things were looking, the “AOTL” video was going to take another delay.

However, things have now gone back to the regularly scheduled programming and the Hype Williams-directed clip just premiered! Instead of the 2300 people Kanye has featured on the latest single from his platinum My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Rihanna and Kid Cudi are the fellow main stars in the video. BUT, Fergie, Drake, The-Dream, Elton John, Alicia Keys, Elly Jackson from La Roux, John Legend, Tony Williams, Charlie Wilson, Baby Jesus, ET, Dora the Explorer and Janet Jackson’s whisper all get shout outs at the end.

I FUCKING LOVE THIS VIDEO! Hype, I’m proud to call you one of my favorite directors of all time again. It’s been too long due to some of your past videos (ex. Mary J. Blige’s “Stay Down”) that kept me from defending your tragic work for the past three years. And since I’m an art head and graphic designer, the various typography effects showcasing the lyrics and their names was super extra dope!

    Job well done Kanye!

  4. KEYSHIA COLE EYES LADY GAGA COLLAB FOR NEW ALBUM

Keyshia Cole JUST released her new album Calling All Hearts a month ago but is already plotting her next release. Since Hearts opened to not-so-stellar first week numbers (only selling over 140k to date since it’s release), KC is ready to move onto recording what will be her fifth album. When speaking with MTV News on who she would love to get in the booth with on the next disc, Keyshia replied

“I would honestly love to work with one of the girls that are huge in pop, like a Beyoncé or Lady Gaga or Fergie.”

So could this be a possible outlook on the sound of Keyshia’s new album? I kinda sorta hope so because I would like to see her expand her sound in a different arena while still staying true to her roots. A Gaga or Fergie collaboration wouldn’t be hard to achieve being that all three ladies are under the Interscope umbrella. It’s all a matter of KC actually reaching out to make it all happen.

IMO, Keyshia has the potential to release a huge record that will crossover to mainstream, just look at “Let It Go” and the Diddy-collabo “Last Night.” However, she had the opportunity to take on the challenge with ‘08’s A Different Me, failing to release standout tracks such as “Please Don’t Stop” and “Erotic”…hell even “Beautiful Music” was taking off nicely.

Keyshia is also one of the rare R&B chicks that can do some Pop music while still keeping her urban soul alive (listen to A Different Me’s supposed-to-be single “This Is Us”). So this new chapter will be interesting to watch in terms of sound, being that Calling All Hearts is flopping due to horrible ass single choices even she regrets (s/o to “I Ain’t Thru”).

But in the meantime, Keyshia will be releasing the Irv Gotti/Chink Santana-produced “Take Me Away” as the third single from CAH. She recently shot a video for the track as well as kicking off promo for the single by performing on The Conan O’Brien Show last week.

  5. NEW MUSIC: BLACK EYED PEAS - “THE TIME (THE DIRTY BIT)” + CD COVER

The Black Eyed Peas delivered hit after hit last year and this year with the release of their last album The E.N.D. Now the hip-hop/pop outfit are gearing up to release their sixth studio effort entitled The Beginning on November 30th. So you know the first single had to be around the corner… and here it is!

The upbeat/dance floor ready “The Time (The Dirty Bit)” is the lead single from The Beginning and samples the popular Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes single “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from the classic 80s flick Dirty Dancing.

The group also shot a top secret video for the single a couple of weeks ago before embarking on the South American leg of their current tour. Download “The Time (The Dirty Bit)” Here

I’m diggin’ this right here! Sounds like a continuation of The E.N.D. with an extra pep to its step and fresher. However, I would have preferred Fergie just drop another solo album. Really, Black Eyed Peas are just another name for Will.I.Am & Fergie featuring those other two dudes.

Also, here’s the official cover of The Beginning, in stores November 30th! I like it a lot!

  6. KANYE WEST REVEALS NEW MEGA-COLLABO + ‘ELLEN’ INTERVIEW

Kanye West is officially the new king of collaborations for the year of 2010! If he wasn’t on someone else’s track or remix, Mr. West was crafting up collabos with Beyonce, Swizz Beatz, Jay-Z, Charlie Wilson, Nicki Minaj, Mos Def, Rick Ross and a host of others! Now, Kanye is gearing up for the ultimate collaboration with not one, not three, but ELEVEN artists! The all-star line-up set to appear on his new My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy single “All The Lights” include Rihanna, Fergie, Elton John, Alicia Keys, John Legend, The-Dream, Tony Williams, Kid Cudi, Charlie Wilson, Ryan Leslie and La Roux’s Elly Jackson.

However, don’t expect to hear a full verse from each artist. Kanye described the track as “completely seamless and completely ghetto as f**k,” taking bits and pieces from each artist.

I guess Kanye wasn’t playing when he said that “All The Lights” will be completely different from the version that leaked a while ago.

Also, the rapper/producer stopped by today’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he spoke about the VMA/Taylor Swift situation, how he coped with his mom’s death, living in three different countries, and his newest accessory…his bottom row of diamond encrusted teeth!

His 35-minute short film for “Runaway” will premiere simultaneously on MTV, MTV2 and BET on October 23rd at 8PM ET!
